For the past month, I have been working as the marketing and strategy intern at CIS. I chose this opportunity for the independence and responsibility it involves and to learn more about development initiatives in East Africa. In particular, as a student of International Relations, I was keen to understand how various actors around the world are developing innovative solutions to the most pressing global issues. Thus far, I have been pleased with the variety of work I have received and can sense my own development, both on a professional and personal level.
My main focus and goal for the first month of this internship was to improve and expand CIS’s online presence. As such, I have conducted research into search engine optimization, undertaken web optimization for the CIS website, used Facebook Analytics to develop future online marketing strategies for CIS, and written the weekly blog. These tasks have all broadened my understanding of marketing in a digital age, which is a useful skill for numerous other industries. With consistent help and support from my mentors, I have had the ability to learn from my mistakes and continue to improve my professional skills. In this way, this internship has been invaluable!
Looking forward, I am excited for my future responsibilities: conducting market research and ground interviews with schools in Tanzania.
